About the Razorbacks:
Rugby has been played in Spokane since the 1970’s and the Spokane Razorback Rugby Club is the current incarnation. We formed in 1996 as an alternative to the Spokane Men’s Rugby Club. Our beginning was modest, but we were not. Our first tournament we won a created-just-for-us award for our “enthusiasm” both on and off the field. The team flourished from that point and later merged with the Spokane Men’s Club.
Currently, we are a member of the Montana Rugby Union which holds global recognition along with over 2000 other clubs located just within the United States. We draw our players from Spokane and the surrounding area that are looking for a different athletic experience than the usual offerings. Some have played team sports while others barely passed gym class. We find homes for all of them nonetheless and everyone has the time of their lives.
The Montana Rugby Union often chooses many of our members for the select side, or the “all-star” team that represents our union. One of our players was recently selected to play for the United States Eagles national rugby Under-19 team as well. We also have access to the facilities at the Spokane Polo Fields. Its horse-tested surface is regarded as one of the best in the region by those who have had the pleasure to be slammed into it. We have plans to keep meeting that surface and others for a long time to come.
